  • Turned this into black and white for effect. This is an old church at Romaikos Yialos (shallow waters beach area) at Myrina in Lemnos, Greece. This is at the end of a long street loaded with restaurants and bars. You can see the seating there at the base of the church. Food was actually very good. It is also at the base of the port's venetian castle.
    Ekklisia Agia Fotida, Limnos Greece
  • This was taken in July of 2010 when Greece was still in the throws of the financial crisis. In the village of Pyrgi on the island of Chios, I was walking past one of the narrow streets and saw this older woman, a Ya-Ya or Grandmother. With all the problems in Greece she seemed so sad and tragic. Taken early morning with my Canon 7D.

  • Lunch at a seaside restaurant in Kotsinas, Limnos, Greece - this little girl was told to have a time out for mis-behaviour

  • These Caiques were taken at one of the ports on the island of Limnos, Greece. It was a very bright and hazy day and the water was shimmering. I turned it into a black and white with just a hint of color.

  • Greek Fishing boat of the coast of Limnos, Greece. Beautiful water and rugged coastline.
    Fishing, Greek Style
  • This was taken in Varos, a little hamlet on the island of Limnos Greece.
    Blue Door
  • Taken on the island of Limnos, Greece in the north east Aegean Sea. This colorful Caique (Greek wooden fishing boat) had served it's purpose and was left to rot away.
    Not Out To Sea
  • This was a stitched series of photographs to create a panorama of the western shore of the Island of Limnos Greece. This view is of Avlonas beach - a very popular spot.
    Avlonas Panorama
  • This was taken as the sun was going down over Plati Beach. Plati is a small village outside of Myrina on the Island of Limnos, Greece. The beaches here are really exceptional with crystal clear water.
    Plati Beach Sunset
  • This was taken in the town of Pyrgi on the island of Chios, Greece. I just loved her expression - you just want to go up to her and give her a hug. FYI - YaYa in Greek is grandmother.
    YaYa of Pirgi 2
  • This is taken from the other side of Porto Myrina on the island of Limnos, Greece. It was late afternoon and this fishing boat (Caique) had come back in for the night.
    Day Is Done
  • This was taken in the "dying" village of Avenatu on the Island of Chios, Greece. I was walking up this decrepit walkway and came across this table of vegetables, spices and canned goods. The family there consisted of an older couple and their mother or mother-in-law (YaYa). The table was colorful and abundant yet very simple. It is a shame that there are only about 10-15 families left in the entire village.

  • Take from the other side of Porto Myrina, on the island of Limnos, Greece. One morning this tourist clipper ship showed up and anchored for a day. Caused quite a stir on the island.
    Cruising the Aegean
  • Took this picture from a high hill across from the port in Myrina on the island of Limnos Greece. It was a very warm day and a really neat view. But - it warranted some kind of spice - so I made it look like it was a painting by Monet.

  • This was taken in Athens, Greece at the world famous Acropolis -Porch of Maidens. The government has been working on it for quite some time trying to restore and preserve it. The six Caryatids supporting the entablature are an eternal symbol of female aesthetic perfection. The original statues are found in the museum of the Acropolis. The Caryatids were identified as the young girls who danced with baskets on their heads in rituals dedicated to Artemis Caryatid.

  • Taken from Myrina on the island of Limnos, Greece. Mt Athos (or Holy Mountain), home to 20 monasteries is a mountain and a peninsula inhabited by Greek Eastern Orthodox Monks. They don't allow females there. Sunsets from here (Limnos) are almost always spectacular.
    Mt. Athos Sunset
  • This was taken in the city of Myrina on the Greek island of Limnos. I took multiple shots and stitched them together to get the panorama. Myrina is still very small, private and old world.
    Porto Myrina Panorama
  • Took this picture at Plati Beach on Limnos, a greek island. Just thought it was interesting in black and white.
    The Big Urn
  • This is a view of the Myrina Port taken from the Venetian castle. Limnos is very green in spring but turns very arid and brown during summer. But the weather is always sunny and warm.
    Port View
  • Driving around Limnos on my Vespa I came upon this local resident of the little hamlet of Kornos. Very pleasant person - he waved and was very content with his mode of transportation.
    Getting Around In Greece
  • The port town of Myrina on the island of Limnos in Greece. Very small and quiet village
    Porto Myrina
  • I took this on the way to Kaspakas on the island of Limnos, Greece. It's an abandoned Caique (Greek wooden fishing boat).
    Leftovers
  • This was taken in the town of Pyrgi on the island of Chios, Greece. I just loved her expression and asked if I could take her picture. She said yes with the typical Greek expression of nodding her head. I loved the fly on her head and the Izod blouse. FYI - YaYa in Greek is grandmother.
    YaYa of Pirgi
  • This was taken in the town of Oia' on the island of Santorini. The hotel rooms were built-in the side of the mountain and made of concrete with steps up to the main street. You basically are up on the side of a steep cliff about 800 feet from the water below. I converted this picture to a black and white and then colored only sections of the picture.

  • A view of the Greek countryside from a small church bell tower.
    For Whom The Bell Tolls
  • Waiting at an outside cafe in Bucharest, Romania with my traveling companions - vodka tonic, hat and cell phone. One last hurrah before heading back to Greece.
    Traveling Companions
  • Whenever I went to Greece I typically took a side trip. One year I went to Istanbul, Turkey and of course had to see --- the Hagia Sophia (which means Holy Wisdom). It is breath taking both inside and out. Hagia Sophia is a former Greek Orthodox patriarchal basilica, later an imperial mosque, and as of 1935, a museum in Istanbul, Turkey. Originally dedicated in 360 AD. The first church structure was destroyed during riots in 404; the second church, built and dedicated in 415, burned down during the Nika revolt of 532, which caused vast destruction and death throughout the city.
